Solar Battery Storage Cost UK
How much does a home battery really cost? We break down upfront prices, installation fees, running costs, and payback periods — so you can make a smart investment.
Battery Storage Costs at a Glance
Worked example: Economy 7 at 9.5p cheap / 31.24p peak, a typical 2,700 kWh/yr home, 90% usable capacity, 90% round-trip efficiency, 330 cycles a year. Stored energy is capped at what the home uses outside the cheap window. Your figure will differ — the calculator uses your own numbers.
What's Included in the Price?
Unlike traditional batteries that require professional installation, plug-in batteries are all-inclusive.

How Quickly Will a Battery Pay for Itself?
Your payback period depends on your tariff, usage, and whether you have solar panels.
Economy 7 / Time-of-Use
Charge at 10p/kWh overnight, use at 25–30p/kWh during the day. The simplest way to save — no solar needed.
Octopus Go / Intelligent Go
Charge at 8–8.5p/kWh overnight (5–6 hours).
Solar + Battery
Store excess solar generation instead of exporting at 4–5p/kWh. Use your own free electricity in the evening.
Are There Any Ongoing Costs?
Electricity to charge
The battery uses electricity to charge — but the whole point is that you charge it when electricity is cheapest. On Octopus Go, charging a 10.24 kWh Venus-E from empty costs about 87p per night (8.5p/kWh × 10.24 kWh).
If you have solar panels, charging is free from excess generation.
Maintenance
None. LFP batteries have no moving parts and require zero maintenance. There are no filters to clean, no fluids to top up, and no annual servicing.
The 10-year warranty covers any manufacturing defects. LFP cells are rated for 6,000+ cycles — that's over 16 years of daily charging.
