Why Octopus tariffs are perfect for home batteries
Octopus Energy's time-of-use tariffs offer some of the cheapest overnight electricity in the UK — as low as 5–7.5p/kWh on Go and Agile. A battery can charge at low rates overnight and supply a suitable direct-appliance load or qualifying installed load during expensive peak hours.
Our calculator uses Octopus rate data and a standard half-hourly load profile. It is an estimate: the result depends on the load your chosen connection can actually serve.

Unlike generic savings calculators, ours pulls real-time pricing data from the Octopus Energy API for your specific region. Here's what makes it accurate:
- Live tariff rates — We fetch current off-peak and peak rates for Go, Agile, Flux, Cosy, and Intelligent Go directly from Octopus.
- Regional pricing — Electricity prices vary across the UK's 14 grid regions. Select your region for rates specific to your area.
- Usage-based modelling — Low, medium, and high usage profiles based on real UK consumption data (Ofgem's Typical Domestic Consumption Values).
- Solar integration — If you have solar panels, we factor in self-consumption savings and the value of stored solar vs. exported solar.
- Long-term projections — 10 and 15-year savings projections including 5% annual energy price inflation, giving you the full picture.
