What balcony solar actually is
The kit combines rigid solar panels with a micro-inverter and a documented plug-in connection. The panels generate DC electricity and the micro-inverter converts it to AC, limited to its stated output. Installation must follow the supplied mounting, socket and notification instructions.
Whether it is removable depends on the selected mounting equipment and the property. Renters and leaseholders should obtain written permission and check the lease or tenancy before attaching anything to a balcony or façade.
Which way does your balcony face?
Orientation matters more than anything else you can control. These are relative outputs for an 800W kit, taking an unshaded south-facing installation as the benchmark.

Before you buy anything
Check permission first
Get written approval from your landlord, freeholder or building management. Leases in blocks of flats commonly restrict anything attached to a railing or visible from the street.
Watch the wind loading
Angling panels outward gains output but catches far more wind. On an exposed or high-level balcony, a flush railing mount is the sensible compromise.
Measure the space
Confirm the railing length, panel dimensions, safe clearances and cable route before ordering. Never position panels where they could fall into a public area.
Where the UK sits versus Germany
Germany is the useful benchmark: balcony solar there went from niche to millions of installs once the rules were simplified. The UK has now followed suit.
