How It Works — With the Smart Meter
The plug-in home battery connects to your mains circuit and uses the smart meter (CT clamp) to intelligently manage energy flow — no modifications to your solar system needed. The smart meter is included with Pro Install or sold separately as an electrician-fitted add-on.
Solar Generates Power
Your existing panels produce electricity as normal. Your home uses what it needs first.
Smart Meter Detects Excess
The CT clamp monitors energy flow and detects when generation exceeds consumption — spotting the surplus that would normally be exported.

AC-coupled or DC-coupled?
An AC-coupled battery connects to your home's mains, not the panels, so it works beside the solar inverter you already have. The Marstek Venus-E and the Fox Mini Qube AC version work this way and need the smart meter to charge from spare solar. The Fox Mini Qube Hybrid also has a 0.8 kW direct panel input. DC-coupled systems share one hybrid inverter with the panels and usually mean replacing your existing inverter.
Storing spare solar instead of exporting it
Without the smart meter, a plug-in battery charges on a timetable. With it, the battery charges from solar your home isn't using and powers the home first in the evening. It is an optional upgrade, not a requirement.
